From
the Chair…
Welcome
to the 2006-2007 Academic Year! It is my hope that you
are rejuvenated and refreshed with a summer respite from
academe. While the rhythm and traditions of the academic
year remain relatively steadfast each year, we can
always expect new faces and changes each year that will
challenge us and, at least, keep things interesting!
We
welcome Professor Thomas Seddon to our faculty in a permanent
capacity as Assistant Director of Bands and Director of
the Marching Band. Professor Seddon is already in “full-swing”
with preparations for the fall season. As the year
progresses, we look forward to his insightful work with
the Wind Symphony and instrumental music education.
As
many of you know, Dr. Pam Perry and Dr. Carlotta Parr
will be on sabbatical leaves in the fall and spring
respectively. In light of these leaves, CCSU has
appointed Professor Barbara Bush to a one-year position
in choral conducting. Professor Bush will direct
University Singers in the fall and the University
Chorale for the entire year. We look forward to her
musical direction for both these ensembles and her
contribution to our choral conducting and music
education programs.
In
November 2002, the Department of Music at
Central
Connecticut
State
University
received accreditation with the National
Association of Schools of Music. During the 2006-2007 we
will undergo our second accreditation visit. Our
Self-Study for the Accreditation will allow us as
students, faculty, and staff to reflect on our strengths
and our needs for improvements. This process will enable
our Department to “direct our course” more thoughtfully
and conscientiously. Everyone in the Department, in some
way, will be asked to participate in this process. While
the process for accreditation is a long and demanding
project, the product will provide us with fertile
opportunities for growth!
Welcome
to the New Year!
